AFFF Firefighting Foam Lawsuit

Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) is a fire suppressant that is mostly used by firefighters, military personnel, and at airports for commercial use.

Does AFFF foam expire?

Fire Fighting Foams usually have a very long shelf life, provided they are kept within the manufacturers guidelines and temperature limits and are stored in the original and unopened shipping containers.

Is AFFF banned?

NO AFFF is not banned, but in most parts of the world (those countries that are signatories to the Stockholm Convention relating to Persitent Organic Pollutants (POP’s)) foams containing PFOS (a member of the PFAS family of chemicals) are NOT allowed.

Is AFFF foam still used today?

The law prohibits using AFFF for fire training purposes. But AFFF may still be used for real fires and emergencies that involve flammable liquid fires. How do you safely store AFFF? Follow our AFFF Guidance for Firefighting Organizations to safely store your AFFF until the collection and disposal program begins.

Does AFFF foam expire?

Fire Fighting Foams usually have a very long shelf life, provided they are kept within the manufacturers guidelines and temperature limits and are stored in the original and unopened shipping containers. For example, a shelf life of 10–20 years can be expected for AFFF-LF and AFFF concentrates, if stored correctly.

What will replace AFFF foam?

There are various options for AFFF replacement, including: Non-fluorinated foam options that do not contain PFAS chemicals. High-density water applications. Alternate liquid containment systems.

What is 3% AFFF foam?

Fomtec AFFF 3% is an aqueous film forming foam concentrate (AFFF) consisting of a blend of fluorocarbon-, hydrocarbon surfactants and various solvents and stabilisers. Only C6 Pure fluorosurfactants are used in Fomtec AFFF-formulations.

What is AFFF foam made of?

AFFF is usually created by combining foaming agents with fluorinated surfactants. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are the active ingredient in these fluorinated surfactants.
